ARGUS Science Award for Hedongliang (Lia) Liu

The ARGUS Science award is awarded annually by Hensoldt to honor outstanding Bachelor, Diploma- and Master theses in the areas of information, communication and high-frequency technology. The topic of Lia's thesis were interleaved Goppa codes, their decoding and their application in cryptography. She developed an efficient decoding algorithm and analyzed the parameters when interleaved Goppa codes are used in the McEliece code-based cryptosystem. By means of interleaved codes, the key size can be reduced by more than 40% compared to the classical McEliece system.
