Project Objectives
The Munich School of Robotics and Machine Intelligence (MSRM) at TUM, together with a hand-picked consortium of industry and startups, is planning to develop and commission the first AI.FABRIK in Bavaria - announced by the Bavarian state government in its high-tech agenda - by 2030. The development will take place in four phases, some of which will run in parallel. In this project, after an overview of the overall concept of the KI.FABRIK, the focus is on phase 1 of 4: the establishment of the first prototype of the KI.FABRIK at a suitable location in Munich, starting in 2020. Initially, in phase 1, the research infrastructure of the KI.FABRIK will be set up in a project that is independent of the research and will be gradually commissioned and opened over the course of two years. The infrastructure will be funded independently of this project and its construction will partially precede the collaborative project. The infrastructure will then be used for the first time by the research and development project applied for here.
Summary
The Munich School of Robotics and Machine Intelligence at TUM plans to develop and commission the first KI.FABRIK in Bavaria by 2030 in close cooperation with local industry and startups. There, science and companies from the Free State will have the opportunity to experience the factory of the future first-hand, to design it, and to validate and further develop their own technologies in this environment in an uncomplicated manner. The KI.FABRIK will be a fully flexible and networked site for the local, crisis-proof and economical production of state-of-the-art IT and mechatronic high-tech components in Bavaria. In the first research project on AI.FABRIK applied for here (phase 1 of the mission: AI.FABRIK 2030), a new technological framework for AI-supported production will be developed that will enable AI.FABRIK to manufacture various mechatronic products using fully modular, reconfigurable, highly automated and integrated AI technologies. A significant difference from previous concepts is the direct physical interaction of AI with the factory environment using robots and similar systems, as well as the intuitive and transparent connection between humans and machines through wearable technology. In the long term, this will enable competitive automated manufacturing in Bavaria from batch size 1 for complex, individual products (production-as-a-service). The KI.FABRIK offers the partner companies (dynamic, innovative technology leaders and deep tech startups from the fields of edge computing, intelligent robotics, manufacturing technology, sensor technology or (intra-)logistics, among others) unique research, further development, application and cooperation opportunities for their technologies and application scenarios in the field of factory of the future.
