Sandra Hirche received an ERC Starting Grant "Control based on Human Models (con-humo)" starting from Feb 1, 2014. The project focuses on novel concepts for automatic control based on data-driven human models and machine learning with application in physical human-robot interaction. The developed methods are a direct enabler for societally important applications such as machine-based physical rehabilitation, mobility and manipulation aids for elderly, and
collaborative human-machine production systems. With its fundamental results CON-HUMO lays the ground for the systematic control design for smart human-machine/infrastructure interaction.
ERC grants are awarded through open competition to projects headed by starting and established researchers, irrespective of their origins, who are working or moving to work in Europe. The sole criterion for selection is scientific excellence. The aim here is to recognise the best ideas, and confer status and visibility on the best brains in Europe, while also attracting talent from abroad.
