The Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) is sponsoring a three-year joint project, "NewCom - Post Shannon Communication."

The project aims to develop a general communication systems theory that goes beyond Shannon's approach to communication in order to achieve a more efficient information transmission for selected applications. The performance gains will be verified experimentally in a hardware demonstrator.

The Chair of Theoretical Information Technology will be collaborating with partners from the Technical University of Munich and the Technical University of Berlin.
