Mathematical Foundations of Signal Analysis
Prof. Hans. G. Feichtinger, NuHAG, Universität Wien
Prof. Feichtinger, visiting professor at the LTI, is offering two courses in the coming semester. These courses will develop the mathematical foundations of signal and system theory in a mathematically precise and consistent way.The introductory Course I will describe the fundamental principles of Fourier- and Harmonic Analysis using an intuitivemethod which includes the short-time Fourier transform and Gabor expansion. This course is mainly based on methodsfrom linear algebra and will illustrate the approach using MATLAB examples. Course II describes the more powerfulmathematical tools necessary to understand and discuss the continuous, non-periodic case. This course will use a„simplified distribution theory“ based on modern developments in time-frequency analysis using the Segal algebraS0(Rd). The two courses are related to each other but may also be attended individually depending on the priorknowledge of the student.
