10.05.2024 | GPLA summer semester

Just like every year before, the summersemester-GPLA was held. The prize for the winner of the challenge - which consisted in building a contraption to transport a ball between two tables on the longest possible distance - was a coupon worth 50€ to go minigolfing as a team.

17.04.2024 | KickOff summer semester

At the start of the semester, all advisees met with their new, combined groups for the first time. This represents an added challenge for this semester, as they now not only have to build a maze-solving roboter, but do so while learning how to coopertate with previously unknown team members.

The teams are now allowed to start building, may the best one win!

29&30.01.2024 | PPP

This monday and tuesday, like every year, the PPP was held. Two randomly chosen advisees of each team presented their advances to a jury consisting of professors and our sponsor, Mouser.

The jury analysed and pointed out potential flaws in the different designs, which should allow the advisees to avoid critical problems in their machine later down the line.

This is the last event this semester, we'll see you at the summer-kick-off !

06.12.2023 | TechDay

6.12.2023: Building a robot that navigates through a labyrinth to retrieve a prize is no easy feat - particularly for first-year students. Bearing the challenges in mind, we held our annual “Tech Tag” to equip our Advisees with foundational skills they need for their projects. Through workshops held by industry professionals from Mouser and Red Pitaya as well as Advisors, the students got introductions into the worlds of Arduino, sensors, 3D Printing, motors, oscilloscopes and object oriented programming. In these sessions emphasis was placed not only on applicability to the project - but also real world uses, priming the students for their future endeavours as engineers.

The event culminated in a relaxing evening with mulled wine, Christmas cookies, and lots of fun!

Module 1&2

Once more, our latest cohort of Advisors underwent two comprehensive training modules in Wies, cultivating essential skills needed to mentor Advisees over the upcoming year.

In the first module, focus was placed on teambuilding, getting to know each other, and getting acquainted with warm-up games and PLA’s (Problem Solving Challenges) to increase group attention, engagement, and communication. Further skills were taught, including how to create  a welcoming and open environment, foster positive dialogue within the group, as well as create attractive and interactive presentations with flipcharts. The module concluded with each Advisor holding their own workshop on a chosen topic and receiving detailed feedback.

In the second module, group dynamics were explored in greater depth. Advisors were taught how to identify and influence different group dynamics, and were given the chance to lead warm-up games themselves - all the while deepening their connections  with one another.
