Admission information
Objectives
After the lab, the students are able to apply the basics of digital transmission systems that were discussed in "Nachrichtentechnik 1" and "Nachrichtentechnik 2" to real systems and to analyze and evaluate quality criteria of such systems.
We also discuss relevant methods in image compression and their sensibility in the choice of parameters.
Description
The modules of a digital transmission chain are applied and characterized in practice:
- Diversity in mobile communications (fading channels, diversity in time, frequency and space)
- Source and image coding (PCM, DPCM, DCT)
- Digital modulation schemes (BPSK, QPSK, QAM)
- Digital representation of signals (sampling, quantization, binary encoding)
- Digital baseband transmission (channels, properties of digital signals, signal detection)
- Equalization
- Channel Coding
Prerequisites
The following modules should be passed before the participation:
- Signale
- Systeme
- Nachrichtentechnik 1
It is recommended to participate in parallel at the following module:
- Nachrichtentechnik 2
Teaching and learning methods
- Individual work on homework questions
- Discussion of these homework questions during the preparation
- Individual supervision by tutors and doctoral students
- Interactive summary and wrap-up
