The topic of Anisha's thesis was Sequential Decoding of Convoutional Codes for Insertion/Deletion Channels. She derived a new decoding metric to facilitate the implementation of sequential decoders for insertion/deletion channels and compared a sequential Fano decoder with a Viterbi approach. It turned out that sequential decoders for the insertion/deletion channel can approach maximum-likelihood behavior asymptotically while reducing the complexity significantly compared the Viterbi algorithm for insertion/deletions.
