Probabilistic constellation shaping (PCS) continues to succeed in the field. Alcatel-Lucent Submarine Networks and Nokia Bell Labs recently set a 65 Terabit-per-second transmission record over a 6,600 km single mode fiber with submarine grade amplifiers. The breakthrough lab trial used TUM's PCS method, which was invented by Georg Böcherer and further developed by Patrick Schulte and Fabian Steiner. The idea won a 2015 Bell Labs Prize and has been optimized and implemented by Nokia Bell Labs.
