Mari Kobayashi will receive a Humboldt Fellowship for Experienced Researchers from the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation. This prestigious fellowship is granted to approximately 500 applicants annually across all fields of research and at all German universities. (The number 500 includes applicants for the Humboldt Fellowship for Postdoctoral Researchers.) The fellowship will provide funding for Mari's sabbatical stay at TUM and LNT. [read more]

Gerhard Kramer has been listed by Thomson Reuters as a Highly Cited Researcher for 2016, as one of the most influential researchers in Computer Science. Influence is determined by analyzing citation data to identify those who published the highest-impact work during 2004-2014. Highly cited papers rank in the top 1% by citations for their subject field and year of publication. [read more]

Probabilistic constellation shaping (PCS) continues to succeed in the field. Alcatel-Lucent Submarine Networks and Nokia Bell Labs recently set a 65 Terabit-per-second transmission record over a 6,600 km single mode fiber with submarine grade amplifiers. The breakthrough lab trial used TUM's PCS method, which was invented by Georg Böcherer and further developed by Patrick Schulte and Fabian Steiner. The idea won a 2015 Bell Labs Prize and has been optimized and implemented by Nokia Bell Labs. [read more]
