Best Poster Award at the Computing Frontiers 2024 Conference

Aktuelles |

At this years 21st ACM International Conference on Computing Frontiers (CF' 24), our Poster titled „Hardware Assist for Linux IPC on an FPGA Platform“ received the Best Poster Award. The poster authored by Lars Nolte, Tim Twardzik, Camille Jalier, Jiyuan Shi, Thomas Wild and Andreas Herkersdorf presents our work of exploring the assistance of the Linux operating system (OS) with an FPGA-based hardware unit on a Zynq Ultrascale+ platform. The hardware unit assists Linux with managing waiting threads to improve blocking inter-process communication (IPC) mechanisms, building upon our previous work HAWEN and HW-FUTEX. The evaluation showed that a custom consumer-producer application could exchange up to 220% more messages with the hardware assist, but the time to wake up a thread tends to be longer.

The Computing Frontiers Conference is a well established event for an interdisciplinary, collaborative research community that investigate emerging technologies in the broad field of computing. This year’s edition took place from May 7th - 9th, 2024 on the island Ischia, Naples, Italy (https://www.computingfrontiers.org/2024/).

Congrats to Lars who presented the poster on Ischia.
