As part of the lecture "Introduction to Computer Architecture" (Prof. Dr.-Ing. Carsten Trinitis) students of the new "Information Engineering" programme at TUM Heilbronn were given the opportunity for intensive discussions with representatives of NVIDIA (www.nvidia.com) and AMD (www.amd.com).
On Jan 24th, Dr. Dai Yang (former CAPS colleague) came to Heilbronn from Munich to give an overview on graphics cards, accelerators, and high speed networks by NVIDIA (Image 1). To give students the opportunity to compare another company's perspective, Dr.-Ing. Michael Klemm (Image 2) travelled to Heilbronn one week later from Nuremberg, giving an insight into AMD's current EPYC processors, graphics cards, and accelerators as well as the accompanying software infrastructure.
Feedback from students was extremely positive, and there were numerous questions to both presenters after the guest lectures along with intensive exchange on technical details as well as on company perspectives.
We plan to continue the series of guest lectures by company representatives in upcoming semesters.
