[22.06.2024] Web page online. The goal of this Praktikum is to learn how to evaluate user interfaces with qualitative and quantitative methodology.
Information
- This Praktikum (Bachelor Practical Course) is for students in Informatics or related Bachelor study programs (module IN0012)
- The course will be conducted in English language
- You should be able to create mockups and implement a basic user interface in a program environment of your choice. (This practical course is not a programming course.)
- The content and purpose of the user interface can be chosen freely within the context of the UN sustainability goals: https://sdgs.un.org/goals
- The course is conducted in groups of 2 students. The programming environment can be selected by the groups.
- Prerequisites for credits:
- Complete, present and document all parts of the course
- Access all parts of the online material (Part I) and attend all in-person sessions (unless excused due to certified illness etc.)
- Grading will be based on the quality of the solution as presented and documented
- The eTests in the online material are mandatory but will not influence the grade
Registration
- Registration is done using the Matching System of the department: https://www.cit.tum.de/en/cit/studies/students/examination-matters-modules/informatics/practical-courses-seminar-courses/ and https://docmatching.in.tum.de (you have to use the matching system to participate in the course!)
- You can optionally send a short motivation statement why you want to participate in this course via Email to woerndl@in.tum.de (max. 150 words) (sending a motivation statement is optional, but may increase your chances of getting a place)
- You can optionally include information on your preferred group partner (I can not guarantee that both students will get a place though, groups will be formed after the matching is complete, before the start of the course and semester.)

Part I User-Centered Research (online)
- Section 1: Introduction and Overview
- Section 2: Usability Evaluation
- Section 3: Controlled Experiments
Part II Qualitative Evaluation (group work and presentations)
- Develop mockups and evaluate them with Usability Evaluation
Part III Quantitative Evaluation (group work and presentations)
- Develop an interactive prototype and evaluate it with a controlled experiment
