eSOA
Embedded Service-Oriented Architecture
Dynamically changing embedded networks containing a multitude of networked nodes with diverse sensing, acting and processing capabilities are emerging in various application fields, such as the building management and factory automation sector. The application development for these networks poses several challenges: complexity and size of the network, heterogeneity of nodes and infrastructure dynamics, e.g. by temporarily available or mobile nodes.
The eSOA project proposes an embedded serviceoriented architecture (SOA) to solve these challenges. In the context of embedded networks, an application can be interpreted as a set of interacting services that produce, consume, or manipulate data. However, it is not possible to map the common concepts of SOA directly to embedded networks due to the hard boundary conditions, such as limited resources and real-time requirements. Therefore, the eSOA project proposes a modified SOA concept that is based on embedded services Service.
An important focus of the project is the support of the end user during the development process. Using model-based tools, it should be possible to develop an application without having in-depth knowledge about implementation details. Tools for automatic service composition, code generation, software deployment on the nodes and automatic configuration help to achieve this goal. Demonstrators point out the feasibility of this approach.
